The importance of water on earth is today's toolbox topic. I want to dedicate today's talk exclusively to dealing with the subject of an essential element for the maintenance of all animal and plant life. This element is very abundant and we use it daily on a thousand different occasions. You may have already guessed that I am referring to the element ' Importance of water on earth.
Are you ready?
The importance of water on earth
Did you know that all living
beings on this planet depend on water for their livelihood?
Without water, there would be no
rivers, no lakes, no forests, no animals, no plants, and no birds. Without
water, we could not exist.
Water covers about 70% of the
Earth's surface. About 70% of the human body is also water. And our bodies need
more than two litres of water daily to digest food, cool our system, lubricate
our bones, soften our tissues, clean our eyes, and remove the waste our bodies
create. While we could survive for several weeks without food, we would die
within a few days if we had no water.
Clean water is essential for
public health, hygiene, energy, industrial growth, agricultural production, and
leisure time. But people are not the only users of water. A cow, for example,
must drink 12 litres of water to produce a litre of milk, and an ear of corn
needs approximately one hundred litres of water to grow.
Because people use the same water
over and over again, its quality, or state of cleanliness, is very important.
Every time we use water, its quality changes. When we add garbage, toxic
substances, chemicals, sediment, oil, grease, and other debris, the chemical,
biological, and physical characteristics of the water change. These changes
produce contamination or pollution.

The importance of water on earth
And the following ideas that I am
going to present to you can help you appreciate this essential element:
There is the same amount of water
on earth today as there was three billion years ago.
This amount is equivalent to
millions of cubic miles of water, which cover 71% of the earth (a cubic mile is
more than 4 billion litres). I know that these figures are beyond the capacity
of our minds to cover the dimension, but this can help us think that, according
to experts, one day we could contaminate all the water.
· Approximately half of the population of this world does not have
access to clean water for hygiene, drinking and /or other needs. As we have
said before, we could survive several weeks without food but only a few days
without water.
· - Water prevents our bones from rubbing and wearing down against
each other and our eyes from drying out. Water carries the necessary chemicals
to our brains so that we can feel and think.
· - The water prevents our skin from drying out and protects us from
the inclemencies of the earth.
Water pollution causes and effects
The importance of water on earth
However, we are currently facing
an enormous challenge: the contamination of rivers, seas, oceans, canals, lakes
and reservoirs.
After listening to today's
toolbox” Importance of water on earth” you may be wondering what the solutions
for preventing water pollution are. These are some ideas both to solve the
current problem and to prevent it from happening again.
Avoiding water pollution is in our
hands. These are some of the measures we can take to eliminate the presence of
contaminants in the water:
· - Reduce CO2 emissions
· - Eliminate the use of pesticides and other types of chemicals that
pose a threat to our nature and purify wastewater
· - Minimize the use of pesticides, plastics and other chemical
contaminants.
· - Do not use contaminated water for crop irrigation
· - Promote sustainable fishing
· - Eliminate the use of single-use plastics
There are thousands of things we
can do to keep our water clean. Among the most important and those that are
more within our reach we can mention the following:
· This point is very important since only a few litres of oil are
enough to contaminate approximately one million litres of water.
· Use non-hazardous alternative products whenever possible. For
example, let's use baking soda as a substitute for other chemicals for cleaning
pipes.
· If we must use fertilizer products, we must apply them properly.
Misuse of these products affects the water supply when erosion and stormwater
runoff carry pesticides from the soil to groundwater.
The importance of water conservation

We can also do a lot of us to
conserve water. On our site, there are many informative signages are posted
that how we can save water and the necessary knowledge that can help us to more
actively in water conservation.
And something that we can all do
very easily is to talk repeatedly with our children to instil in them the need
to conserve water, an essential element for the maintenance of life. Among the
things most accessible to us in our private lives are:
· - Check that no loss in the water supply reaches our home.
· - Use shower heads and faucets that have a water-saving device.
· - Water our plants very early in the morning, so that the hot midday
sun does not quickly evaporate the water.
· - Do not let the water run continuously when we shave, clean our
teeth or wash the dishes.
· - And finally, a tap in our home that does not close properly can
lose up to several hundred litres of water per day.
Conclusion
The importance of water on earth
There are not enough words with
which to properly highlight the importance of conserving water. Due to this
importance, both here at work and in our private lives, we need to learn to
value water more, so that our children and future generations can continue to
enjoy a healthy life on this planet.
