Stop spitting behavior: When we talk about disruptive behaviours, we are referring to non-compliance with rules, disobedience, ignorance of limits..., well, we refer to all these behaviours when we talk about disruptive behaviours, in general, behaviours that generate a lot of irritability in those around us.
What role does human behaviour play in safety at work? It's an old question without a definitive answer. We know that to err is human.
Most employees spend more time with their coworkers than with family and friends. Eight to ten hours a day goes a long way and, unfortunately, not everyone behaves as would be required in a work environment.

Of course, rude people are everywhere, but as a recent study from the
University of Florida showed, in the workplace, antisocial behaviour is
especially contagious.
Not using the bins, not washing your hands, spitting, picking your nose, farting... Things like this, or worse, can be seen in some workplaces. There are indeed people who have sweating problems or even diseases that cause bad body odour, but there are people who, directly, do not observe the slightest hygiene rules. And they are annoying.
What can happen if someone spits in your mouth?
It is often seen as an act of anger and disrespect, but that hasn't always been the case. On the soccer field, spitting on the ground is commonplace, but spitting at your opponents is classified as "violent behaviour" by the world governing body FIFA. Until 1990, in the UK, there was a £5 fine for spitting. In recent years the idea of fines for spitting has resurfaced.
Most people spit a lot because they think it's fancy. Some pick up the
habit and stick with it for the rest of their lives—they spit everywhere.
Naturally, we all need to clear our throats sometimes, particularly if we're
constipated, but there's an urban way to do it and a reprehensible one.
I think we all agree that random spitting is a dirty habit. Seeing sputum
on the ground is not pleasant at all. It also poses a slip hazard. Spits have
been the cause of many falls. If we had a complete record we would surely find
that many skull fractures and many other injuries have been due to this.
Spitting on the ground lead to Incident
A few days ago, exactly this is what prompted me to speak to you today
regarding toolbox talk on this subject, I was reading in a magazine a case in
which a welder died as a result
of a broken spinal column when he slipped on a piece of sputum and fell
into a wrong position. When I finished reading the report, a chill went through
my body and I thought that the same accident, or a similar one with tragic
consequences, could happen any day in our plant. If none has happened to date,
it is a true miracle, since, as we all know, among us, we have people who spit
on any corner or even in the middle of the corridors.
Until I read that report, I had never really stopped to think seriously about the danger they put everyone in our plant in the habit of spitting on the floor. That is why I want all of us to leave here after this toolbox talk with the firm intention of never spitting on the ground, among other things because of the danger it poses to the physical integrity of all of us, as we have just clearly seen in that fatal case.
Stop spitting behavior |
With this I am not accusing anyone in particular, although we all know,
both you and I, that there are people who spit in our plant. I want those who
are responsible to do their best to Stop spitting behaviour. All of us who
don't spit deserve that deference.
Can you get any diseases from spitting?
In addition, diseases are transmitted through spitting. Even a healthy mouth is full of germs. Most are of the harmless kind. But the product that is expectorated is something different. It can be full of very dangerous viruses, for example, Streptococcus. Doctors know that disease germs do not infect everyone in the same way.
Today the risk of contracting a contagious disease if you are spit on is very low. You have a small chance of catching a cold or possibly the flu. Other diseases that are transmitted through saliva include tuberculosis, hepatitis, viral meningitis, cytomegalovirus, a common virus similar to the herpes virus, and Epstein-Barr virus, which is a common herpes virus that causes many diseases, such as glandular fever.

Conclusion
I hope that this talk will serve as a starting point for those who have
this habit to begin to Stop spitting behaviour. If we have to dispose of
something from our throat or lungs, we can do it either in the bathroom or in
the handkerchief, but never on the floor.
